Project Details

Location Camden, Maine
Project Cost $2.4 Million
Owner Camden Library Association
Architect John B. Scholz Architects
Delivery Model CM at Risk

The Camden Public Library Project provided NOD with the challenge of constructing a 9,500 square foot subterranean wing to the existing, and historically significant, original structure. Using a micropile drilling method, and elevator shaft and stairwell were installed connecting the two structures.

TThe original stone wall was removed stone by stone, numbered, and then replaced: as was the lawn that covered the rooftop of the underground wing. A cupola crowns the space, adding natural light to the wing.
