Project Details

Location Bangor, Maine
Project Cost $6.6 Million
Owner Bangor Public Library Assoc.
Architect Robert A.M. Stern Architect
Delivery Model Competitive Bid

Nickerson & O’Day had the pleasure of receiving both the 1962 and the 1998 Bangor Public Library Expansion project contracts. The most recent renovation opened the stacks and included repair of the building’s facade, rotunda, entry and interior. A more convenient, ground level entrance was constructed for easier accessibility. More quite public spaces were created away from the upgraded computer center.

Children now enjoy a brilliant wing of their own offering shelving and fixtures that are scaled down for these smaller patrons. The community room was built into and follows the contour of the hill to the rear of the library, allowing for preservation of the adjacent park that is a favorite among local residence.
