New Nokomis Middle/High School literally signed off on by students
NEWPORT (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Wednesday was banner raising day at the new Nokomis Middle/High School.
The $50 million dollar project being completed by Brewer company, Nickerson & O’Day, has been signed off on by students who will learn in the building come fall.
Nokomis High School and Middle School Banner Hanging Ceremony
On November 14, we welcomed 70 students, teachers, staff and administrators inside of café of the new 50 million-dollar Nokomis High School and Middle School to watch a one-of-a-kind Banner Hanging Ceremony take place!
Students from all seven schools in RSU#19 signed the banner with an exception of a few students, who then signed their names right before they watched the banner get hoisted into position.
Speakers were Karl Ward President & CEO of Nickerson & O’Day, Inc., RobTillotson Owner of Oak Point Associates and Mike Hammer Superintendent of RSU #19.
Thank you, to everyone who attended and helped out with this event!
John Bapst Senior Night Football Game
John Bapst thrives and grows in no small part through the support of our family and friends. At the John Bapst Senior Night Football Game on October 5, the generosity of Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. was recognized.
The following text was read during the game’s halftime ceremony. Once again, many thanks to Karl Ward, CEO of Nickerson & O’Day, Inc.
“Ladies and gentlemen, at this time please turn your attention to midfield and welcome Mr. Karl Ward, CEO of Nickerson & O’Day and Maine State Representative, along with John Bapst Head of School Mel MacKay and Development Director Airlia Britt.
This summer, Nickerson & O’Day, one of Maine’s leading contractors, donated and installed – at no cost to the school – two massive arch replacement windows in the chemistry lab of John Bapst. The value of each of these historically accurate windows is over $20,000.
Tonight we salute Nickerson & O’Day not only for their amazing generosity, but also as the contractor selected by the John Bapst Board of Trustees to build the school’s new gym and fitness center.
Nickerson & O’Day: since 1955, one of Maine’s leading businesses and a great partner to John Bapst Memorial High School.
You can do your own part in helping the new gym and fitness center a reality… Give generously and help us turn the Love That School campaign into a beautiful new facility.
Thank you!”
Jason and Jarryd Tracy Tribute at Speedway 95
On Wednesday, August 15th at Speedway 95 the Jason and Jarryd Tracy tribute car made its debut during the Wacky Wednesday Enduro race. The car was built by the Tracy family in honor of their son and past Nickerson & O’Day employee, Jason Tracy, and grandson Jarryd. The car was driven by experienced driver Duane Dunifer, a close friend of the Tracy family. When the dust settled, the team finished 7th after starting 25th out of 26.
Special thanks to the Tracy family for displaying the Nickerson & O’Day logo on the car – we are honored and humbled by this gesture!
John Bapst Window Replacement Project
“3 years ago, sitting in a Bapst Finance Committee meeting, I looked through the window to see that several other 12′ tall, 90-year old windows were deteriorated and literally falling apart. Something had to be done. 3 years, several Bangor Historical Society meetings and $55,000.00 later, my Nickerson & O’Day crews are on site installing donated historically exact custom-fabricated replicas.
Hopefully, they last the next 90 years!”
