CAMDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY ADDITION

PROJECT DETAILS:

Winner of the
1996 Associated General Constructors
Build America Award
and
Build Maine Award

PROJECT NEWS:

07/19/97 A Successful Marriage of Old and New Camden Public Library enjoys                    a modern addition which blends in smoothly with the existing                     structure

Location: Camden
Delivery Method: CM at Risk
Owner: Camden Library Association
Design Professional: John B. Scholz Architects
Construction Cost: $2.4 Million
DESCRIPTION:

The Camden Public Library Project provided NOD with the challenge of constructing a 9,500 square foot subterranean wing to the existing, and historically significant, original structure.  Using a micropile drilling method, and elevator shaft and stairwell were installed connecting the two structures.

The original stone wall was removed stone by stone, numbered, and then replaced: as was the lawn that covered the rooftop of the underground wing. A cupola crowns the space, adding natural light to the wing.
