When the roof over the aging and original MDI YMCA pool collapsed under a heavy snow, over 1500 individuals, local businesses and campaign Chairman Senator George Mitchell combined to raise $3.6 million dollars to build a new facility.

The Y hired experienced Y-builder Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. to construct the new 32,000 sf state of the art facility - which included a large gymnasium with elevated running track, indoor climbing wall, well-equipped fitness center and a 6 lane competition swimming pool
