When
local educators and community leaders came together to bring the
recognized, space-based Challenger Learning program to Maine,
they brought on Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. as their Design-Build
partner.
After
Nickerson & O’Day visited a Challenger Learning Center program
in Virginia and completed the CLC program there, we teamed with
local architect John Gordon to create the Challenger Learning
Center of Maine - located in a long-vacant theatre building at
the decommissioned Dow Air Force Base in Bangor.
Within the building, Nickerson & O’Day created the elaborate
Space Station and Mission Control rooms along with a
breathtaking two-story lobby and adjacent CLC Store.
Work was
completed on-time and 3 1/2% under its $1,100,000 budget.
